About the original painting: The size of the original painting is 12 x 18 inches, acrylic on board. Date painted: January, 2002. Exhibited at the Addison Gallery, Orleans, Massachusetts in August, 2002, the original painting is now in a private collection.

The light moved so quickly when I was painting that much of the picture was done from memory rather than life. The air was bracingly cold yet the sun made working outdoors bearable. A few minutes after finishing, the sun went behind some clouds and the entire mood became somber and nearly colorless compared to the sparkle of the earlier effect.
