 PBS has released its series entitled "Plein Air, Painting the American Landscape" which is being shown on some PBS stations around the country. It features a 30 minute episode, "Cape Cod, en Plein Air with artist, Charles Sovek." It was filmed in Provincetown and Truro, MA during May, 2004. You can now order the DVD featuring Charles. (Two additional episodes are included, "Taos with Ron Rencher" and "Trinidad, Colorado and Michigan with Frank LaLumia.") This DVD is A MUST HAVE for all Sovek fans! About the Books
It's back! We're pleased to offer a new all color edition of Charles's very popular book, OIL PAINTING: DEVELOP YOUR NATURAL ABILITY. The new edition is paperback with a coil binding so that the pages lay flat for easy reference. The price is $55.00 (plus $10.00 shipping and handling).
Two of Charles Sovek's books are now being published under his own Back Porch Press imprint, along with the three additional titles described below. They are paperbacks with coil bindings.
CATCHING LIGHT IN YOUR PAINTINGS is currently out-of-stock; we may resume printing in the future so feel free to check back.
KEYING YOUR PAINTINGS is a little 24-page booklet expanded from an article Charles wrote for The Artist’s Magazine. The cost is $15.00 plus $5.00 shipping and handling.
Inspired by his web page of the same name, THE BASICS is long overdue in print. For years students have been downloading the lessons directly from the web site completely free of charge. This service will continue for anyone who chooses that option. For those who want a finer quality of reproduction than the 72 dots-per-inch web images - that really don't do justice to both clarity of image and ease in reading the text - can now have the lessons in book form. The volume has spiral binding running horizontally across the top for easy viewing while you're painting. The 8 1/2 x 11 inch, 44 page format is reproduced in full color throughout with additional material written especially for this new edition.
Charles' most recent booklet, A PAINTER'S TOUR DE FRANCE, is once again available. This is more a diary than how-to volume. It includes 40 full color paintings done over a 31 day lark across France. The color reproductions are superb. The text is brief yet informative and not without humor. The size is a vertical 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 with 36 pages spiral bound for easy viewing. It is $30.00 plus $5.00 shipping and handling.
